On 24 May 2013, the scholarship certificates of the AFPEBS-PMAAAD81 grantees were given during the ceremonial turn-over at Naval Forces Eastern Mindanao (NFEM) Mess Hall in Panacan Davao City.
Present during the turn-over were the PMAAA Dimalupig Class ’81 representative, BGEN YERSON E DEPAYSO AFP and the Chief/ General Manager of AFPEBSO, COL MANUEL V SEQUITIN PA (GSC), representing the AFPEBS Board of Trustees.
During the ceremony, Ragie Abarca, one of the recipient of the scholarship certificates conveyed his heartfelt thanks to the PMAAAD81 for giving him this wonderful opportunity, “tatanawin kong malaking utang na loob itong scholarship na ‘to.” he said. Also, BGEN YERSON E DEPAYSO AFP recalled what happened during the typhoon Pablo and how the PMAAA Dimalupig Class ’81 sympathized with the victims thus creating the scholarship program. BGEN DEPAYSO also exhorted the scholarship beneficiaries to be serious in their studies so that they can have a better life in the future.
The PMA Class of 1981 managed to collect P1million for this endeavor and the money was channeled through AFPEBSO. This partnership gave hope to 13 orphaned victims, with one or both parents who have died or declared missing as a result of Typhoon Pablo by providing them with educational benefit until they graduate.
