CAMP AGUINALDO, Quezon City – Dependents of soldiers who were killed-in-action and wounded during combat will benefit from the proceeds of the Heroes Run 2015 to be held on November 29, 2015 simultaneously in Manila, Visayas and Mindanao.
The Heroes Run is an annual running event for military men and women as well as the general running public on their quest to aid the fallen and injured soldiers' dependents. The aim of the run is to unite Filipino runners, whether professional or amateur to take part in this nationalistic effort.
The event is being organized by the Philippine Military Academy Alumni Association, Inc. (PMAAAI). Its Athletic Representative, Col. Leo Guinid said that "Heroes Run has been one of the most successful events in the country in terms of uniting the public and the military. It breaks down boundaries and shows the good nature of each side. It adds inspiration to the soldiers while it makes the public appreciate more the sacrifices our soldiers make for the sake of the country's peace and order."
The AFPEBSO is the chosen organization that will benefit for this year’s ‘run’. "Our AFPEBSO has been consistent in managing the educational scholarship programs for the dependent of our hero soldiers. However, they need all the support we can give to ensure sustainability of these programs. Through this endeavor, we have the best chance to give back to our soldiers by participating in this event and by sponsoring." Col. John Jurado, the PMAAAI President said.
The 2015 Heroes Run is expected to be bigger than all the previous running events organized by the PMAAAI with a projected 5,000 participants. This year, the association saw the opportunity to unite the public and the military by opening the fund-raising event to the public. So far, Heroes Run gathered more and more runners in the past. Just last year, it had two gun starts; one in Manila and the other in Ilo-Ilo. It became very successful that PMAAAI decided to take it to the next level this year: to allow the whole nation join from Luzon to Mindanao.
To show its solidarity and gratitude to the PMAAAI, the AFPEBSO attended its press conference dubbed as “Time to be a Hero’s Hero” last August 27, 2015 at the Philippine Army Officer’s Clubhouse in Fort Bonifacio. Lt Col Genaro C Menor PAF (GSC) the Chief/General Manager with Lt Col Giovanni C Bermudo (INF) PA, the Operations Manager along with AFPEBSO personnel and current grantees participated in the activity. During the press conference, AFPEBS scholars/grantees promoted the noble commitment of the organization and expressed their support to the fund-raising activity.
The 4th Heroes Run 2015 will happen on November 29, 2015 with simultaneous gun starts in Manila, Ilo-Ilo and Davao.
